The Hidden Cost: Country-Variable Pricing
Infobip starts at approximately $41/month as a base, then adds usage-based channel fees that vary dramatically by destination country. SMS costs range from $0.05 to $0.50+ depending on where your users are.
Their omnichannel failover (SMS → WhatsApp → RCS → Voice) means you pay different rates per channel per country. If SMS fails and falls over to voice, you pay the voice rate. Total cost per verification is unpredictable.
Proof of Holdings charges €0.0079 per proof — flat rate, any country, any asset type, any channel. No monthly base fee, no country surcharges.
Omnichannel Failover
Infobip's strength is automatic failover across channels. If SMS fails, it tries WhatsApp. If WhatsApp fails, it tries Voice. This improves delivery rates for traditional OTP.
Proof of Holdings takes a different approach: Reverse OTP eliminates the need for failover. Since the user initiates the message, delivery failure is 0%. There's no need to fail over because the first attempt always succeeds.
Failover sounds sophisticated but it's solving a problem that Reverse OTP doesn't have. Each failover attempt also costs money — compounding the per-verification cost.
Security
Infobip's SMS, WhatsApp, and voice channels are all vulnerable to SIM-swap attacks at the phone number level. Their Signals product detects artificially inflated traffic but doesn't address SIM-swap.
Proof of Holdings is immune to SIM-swap — Reverse OTP requires the user to send from their actual messaging app. Every verification produces an RS256 JWT proof token verifiable offline.
